Philip Clouts on piano and Joe Limburn
on double bass. Philip Clouts is known for his work with sevenpiece
worldbeat jazz band Zubop with whom he has recorded four widely acclaimed
albums toured internationally and played at major festivals such as
WOMAD and Glastonbury. Recent concerts have included Ronnie Scotts
London and Symphony Hall Birmingham. In his liner notes for the new
Trio CD Direction South on 33 Records Observer jazz critic Dave Gelly
writes A good debut in every respect. Clouts touches numerous bases
on this fun wholly accessible album...deft lively intensely rhythmic
piano.
Original material, influenced by Latin
and African jazz and music from New Orleans, to create music with a
groove. A CD entitled Direction South, with liner notes by Dave Gelly,
is out now on 33 Records. Although clearly steeped in the music of
his native South Africa, Clouts touches numerous other bases on this
fun, wholly accessible album, and his deft, lively, intensely rhythmic
piano is skilfully complemented throughout by a vigorous but sensitive
rhythm section. Chris Parker Jazz Review
